Brooke not only brings an extensive background and knowledge to the sport, but she is extremely passionate about growing the girls’ game and the future development of Illinois hockey with the athletes’ best interests in mind.
This will be Brooke’s 6th season coaching youth hockey and 12th year as an independent goalie instructor. Over the last four years, Brooke has established herself in the Illinois hockey community as a head coach, goalie coach, and as a fitness coach.
Coach Carolyn grew up in Connecticut, where she made the switch from figure skating to ice hockey at age eight. Immediately falling in love with the sport, she continued playing for the Connecticut Polar Bears and her town leagues before playing at the University of Connecticut for their DII ACHA team. After graduation Carolyn moved to California. Despite a full time job in the lab, she knew her real passion was always on the ice. Carolyn began coaching hockey in the evenings in Oakland, spending her free time working with players of all ages and abilities. In addition to coaching in-house and learn-to-skate hockey programs, Carolyn also started a special needs ice hockey team and Oakland’s first ever girls hockey program. After a few years on the west coast, her fiancé accepted a job in Chicago and they made the move to the third coast this past September.
Carolyn is incredibly passionate about hockey and growing the women’s game to help bring it the respect that it deserves. In her free time (other than playing hockey), she loves any sort of outdoor adventure and stuffing herself with pasta. Carolyn will be working with all of our Hawks girls with an emphasis on program development and introducing our youngest Hawks to the girls program.
Ryan began playing hockey at the age of 5 In Lakeville, Minnesota - a suburb of the Twin Cities. Ryan continued his hockey career there through high school where he captained the Varsity team. Post high school Ryan elected to hang up the skates and play DII football at Truman State University in Missouri. Ryan’s love of hockey brought him back to the ice through various men’s leagues in Chicago.
Having witnessed the birth of all-girls hockey in Minnesota during his youth and the subsequent explosive growth that followed, Ryan has been driven to help recreate similar opportunities for girls here in Chicago. As a result, Ryan co-founded the Hawks girls program in 2015. He has 3 hockey playing daughters (‘13, ‘08, ‘06) and son who also plays (‘11) - all at the Hawks!
