Spring has sprung for the U18 Prospects team! They captured another banner this spring by winning the 2023 Windy City Rumble this past weekend. The team, led by Coaches Jonathan Cannizzo and Andy Brown, was HOT in the Windy City all weekend by going undefeated in their 6 games.
The combo team of '05s and '06s gelled and was unstoppable as the team defeated the Chargers, Chicago Fire, and Hockey Sense in round robin play. The boys advanced to the quarterfinals as the top seed and took down the Dubuque Pack, then moved through the Wilmette team in the semi's, which then bought them a berth in the championship game.
The finals set up a rematch against the Leafs who the team faced and beat in the Chi-Town Shuffle to take that title just a few weeks earlier. But history repeated itself, and the U18s came out VICTORIOUS once again! Outstanding offense, defense, and goaltending were on full display in the 4-2 win over the Leafs and rewarded the boys with another medal and banner to bring back to Darien.
The win was also a little bittersweet as it capped off a remarkable year and youth hockey career for some of the '05 players who will now be retiring their Hawks jerseys and heading off to college soon. It was a great way to end a fantastic and highly successful U18 season for these '05s and gave the returning '05s and '06s a taste of victory they will carry into and build upon next season!
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families who came out to support the team this weekend. And good luck to the boys moving on. You have wonderful memories to last a lifetime!
