Coach Carolyn Williams recently arranged a huge surprise for our girls players: a special visit from Kendall Coyne-Schofield! Kendall is a two-time Olympian, six-time World Champion, alumnus of Northeastern University, and most importantly - an incredible person. Not only did she join all of the Hawks girls teams on the ice for each of their practices, but she also brought her medals to share, graciously took photos and signed autographs for our players. It was a true display of generosity and kindness from such a decorated and highly regarded professional athlete.
The visit was a huge success. We asked Carolyn to explain some of the reasons she wanted the girls to meet Kendall:
“Kendall is working incredibly hard to improve the game of women’s hockey and be an advocate for girls and women on and off the ice. She is outspoken about issues in the sport and is breaking barriers for future generations of female hockey players. Having a role model such as Kendall and then followed by a tangible experience with her on the ice is so important to the girls playing hockey today. Representation matters, and if you can’t see it, you can’t be it. Girls’ and women’s hockey needs to be recognized as a powerful and respected sport, and creating an environment for our girls to succeed in is key to that. We are so thankful to Kendall for joining us for practice, and it is certainly an experience that will be remembered by all.”
