Letter From Our President

Dear Hawks and Phantoms Families:

By now I am sure you have heard that the State of Illinois has issued additional guidance regarding youth sports ( All Sports Policy ). Hockey has been placed in the "Highest Risk" category, effective August 15.

Last night our governing body, the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois (“AHAI”), informed its affiliates that it does not intend to postpone the certification of team rosters for the 2020-21 season ( AHAI Return to Play Statement ). By certifying rosters, AHAI is paving the way for area clubs to proceed with previously scheduled tryouts.

At this point, the Chicago Hawks and Darien Phantoms intend to proceed with tryouts for the 2020-2021 season. We anticipate that the leagues that we participate in will provide additional information as to how recent developments will affect their time table, and we will provide you with that information as it becomes available.

Drop-in skates and Conditioning are not affected by the guidance issued by the State of Illinois. Please click on the following links to confirm your skate time as some times have changed slightly since registration opened.

Regardless of any guidance we may receive, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY HOCKEY IN ANY FORM IF WE ARE NOT VIGILANT ABOUT SAFETY .

If you are enrolled in Hawks and/or Phantoms activities and your player or someone that you live with tests positive for COVID-19, you MUST notify the Club at covid@chicagohawks.com . This email will be confidentially monitored by the Hockey Director, Board President, and Club Treasurer.

Additionally, please review the following guidelines that will be strictly enforced at all Drop-in, Conditioning, and Tryout sessions.

EVERYONE inside the Darien Sportsplex that is not ACTIVELY ON THE ICE must wear a mask. This means that if you are a player entering/exiting the building or using the locker room, you must be wearing a mask.

  • Players are strongly encouraged to come dressed in their equipment as much as possible before arriving at the Sportsplex to limit the amount of time spent in the locker room together. Although we will start the year with limited access to locker rooms, they will be closed if they are not used in a responsible manner.
  • YOU MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES IN THE LOCKER ROOM.
  • Players should arrive no sooner than 15 minutes before their scheduled event and must leave the premises within 15 minutes after their scheduled event is complete.
  • No gatherings are allowed in the lobby before, during, or after scheduled events.
  • Do not share towels, water bottles, or other personal items.
  • Regularly wash hands and use hand sanitizer before, during, and after practices/games.
  • One spectator per player is allowed in the facility with a face covering while that player is participating in their activity.
  • DO NOT bring your player to the rink if he/she is sick or symptomatic (with cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever of 100.4 degrees or above, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell).

We will provide information regarding sizing this week. Please continue to sign up for concussion testing as that will be necessary regardless of what our season looks like ( Baseline Concussion Screening Sign-up ).

We understand that there is significant uncertainty regarding the upcoming season. Rest assured that we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure a safe return to the ice for our members. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding. Please feel free to contact me at president@chicagohawks.com with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Melissa Surrette
