Squirt 3, coached by Ian Davidson, Chris Jacklin, Rick and Dave Gomez, competed in the Irish South Bend AA Tournament this weekend at Notre Dame.  The boys had a great time playing hockey, but also taking in the Notre Dame vs. Ohio State Hockey game Saturday night.  Notre Dame wasn't the only winners that night, as Jack Simpson was picked from the crowd to ride the zamboni during the second intermission due to his spirit wear and enthusiastic dancing! 

During the Notre Dame game, the boys learned their two win and one loss record for the tournament earned them the chance to play for the championship the next morning vs. the Buffalo Saints AAA who handed them a 4-2 loss during round robin play. 

As the underdogs, Squirt 3 knew they were facing a very physically challenging and talented foe in the Saints, but relished the chance to play them again. The championship game was filled with many exciting moments and was tied 2-2 with 2:45 left in the game when the Saints were given a penalty for a player laying in the crease and covering the puck. Dylan DeMent was chosen to take the penalty shot and scored a goal on an amazing deke on the goalie! Very soon after, one of our players was called for a penalty and Squirt 3 had to face a 6 on 4 situation with the Saint's goalie pulled for the remaining two minutes of the game. In the end, they fought off the onslaught of pressure and shots from the Saints and came away Champs! Liam Davidson was named MVP of the tournament with four goals and four assists.
