The Chicago Hawks Hockey Club will hold tryouts in mid-March for its spring hockey program, headed by Director of Hockey Operations and Player Development, Steve Poapst. The Chicago Hawks will offer travel hockey programs at the Mite through Midget levels, as well as Girls U10-14. As in past years, the Hawks have developed an exciting spring program with the goal of development for all players at all levels. Below you will find a quick summary of our new and improved programming.

If your players number is below the SWSL columns, please attend the SWSL tryouts beginning Sunday March, 20.
This camp is for the top 25 players at every birth year and designed to build off of the players existing skill set and develop them into Elite players. The players will train together against one another throughout this camp to further develop their skills, work on game situational play and improve their overall compete level in various scrimmages and small area games. During the camp there will be tournaments and exhibition games that selected players will be asked to compete in. Every player will be asked to compete in at least one tournament but not all will be available for all players.

Tryouts for this camp are Complete (except Girls).
Sessions will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. (Girls U10-U14 will be on Mondays & Wednesdays)

Camp Levels include: 2010, 09, 08, 07, 06, 05, 04 and 03 along with Girls U10-U14
Based on tournament availability at the 2010 & 09 level it will be determined if other tournaments or a league may be more beneficial for their development.

Any player that does not get offered a spot in the camp will be asked to tryout for the SWSL. They will not have to pay another tryout fee.

Hockey Director Steve Poapst will again run this spring’s top midget skill training camp in the area. Coach Poapst’s attention to detail is what separates him from other instructors. He has played and coached players at the highest levels including: NHL, AHL, USHL, and AAA. From an instructional perspective, he will incorporate his knowledge of the game and pass along to the players in this development camp. All players selected for this program will receive skill development instruction and work on game situational play. Teams will be created from the group of players and will compete in once per week scrimmages.
Some players will be selected and asked to participate in local tournaments and exhibition games throughout the spring.

This camp is available for players that have played at a Gold level or higher.

The Chicago Hawks Hockey Club will once again be a part of the growing SWSL Spring Travel League. This program will offer three home games, three away games, and a playoff round robin tournament.
Participants will skate two days a week, consisting of one team practice one skills session. The SWSL will feature more teams and more clubs than in years past due to the growing number of hockey players in our area.
Tryouts - Spring tryouts will begin on Sunday, March 19th. Each player will participate in two tryout sessions, with tryouts wrapping-up on Wednesday, March 22nd. Subsequent to tryouts, players will have 1-2 weeks off from the rink to enjoy spring break. Tryout cost $50.
Team Practices - Spring teams will receive eight split ice practice slots. All practices will be on Monday evenings. Practices will begin on Monday, April 3rd. Cost is included in team fee.
Skills Sessions - Skills sessions will be offered on Wednesday evenings for an extra fee. Once a player is assigned to a team you will receive information regarding Wednesday skills session dates and times.
Teams will participate in the Southwest Spring League (SWSL). All teams will play in at least nine games. The league will start the weekend of April 8th and the end of season tournament will be the weekend of June 2-4th and the championship games will be the weekend of June 10-11th.
Cost for players for teams $369. Goalies $175.
